At WEFTEC 2021, Pam Elardo, Deputy Commissioner, Bureau of Wastewater Treatment at New York City Department of Environmental Protection, discussed the evolving landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the water sector. She talked about what actions we can take individually and organizationally, and the effects that these actions can have. At WEFTEC Elardo also helped facilitate a peer-to-peer Learning Exchanges focused on LGBTQ+ issues in the water workforce.

Elardo also authored the article, "Celebrating Everyone’s ‘Whole-Self'". This article appeared on the annual State of the Sector coverage in the January 2022 issue of Water Environment & Technology magazine. Her article includes a request for others to share their stories from the LGBTQ+ community to continue the momentum.
