The mission of WEF’s Students and Young Professionals Community is to encourage and facilitate student and young professional involvement in WEF and the Member Associations through professional development and leadership opportunities. The SYPC is made up of students, young professionals, academics and water quality professionals.

SYP Activities at WEFTEC
The WEF Students and Young Professionals Community (SYPC) develops several regular programs at WEFTEC. These programs drive innovation, enrich the expertise of water professionals, and increase the awareness of the value of water.
Discover this environmental and water awareness fair for K-9 students near the WEFTEC host city. Volunteers set up booths depicting all aspects of water quality/conservation and spend the day teaching students about their passion for water.
This year’s event will be on Friday, September. 26th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Angels Schools.
Community Service Project
Since 2008, the WEF Community Service Project has helped WEFTEC host cities. with more than 6 rain gardens, 8 bioswales, 2 outdoor classrooms, and 1 stormwater managing walkway, all of which include hundreds of native plantings.
Registration for the Service Project is free and open to all WEFTEC attendees and their guests.
Jammin’ 4 Water
Don’t miss Jammin’ 4 Water, where water quality professionals showcase their musical talents to support the WEF Community Service Project and WASH charities. Students and young professionals involved in the Service Project get discounted tickets.
Student Design Competition
Join the WEFTEC Student Design Competition for real-world design experience. Organized by the SDC Planning Committee, this annual event encourages university student teams from WEF Member Associations to showcase their skills in wastewater and environmental design.
Attending WEFTEC and looking to boost your water industry career? Join the Students and Young Professionals Career Fair on September 29th! Participate to talk with over 25 top employers.
Attend: The career fair will be Monday, September 29th, 1 – 4 PM, McCormick Place – Room S105 (South Building, Level 1).
