Sustainability Certified!
WEFTEC has earned the Events Industry Council's Sustainable Event Standards Platinum Certification.
Carbon Offsets
With the generous contributions of WEFTEC participants and a matching contribution from WEF, we offset 9,524 MTCO2e of carbon emissions, covering the travel emissions for all WEF staff and 55% of attendee travel.
Water Restoration
WEF purchased Water Restoration Credits (WRC) from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to cover the entire water consumption (536,000 gallons) from venue operations at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convent Center WEFTEC.
Reduced Energy Usage
Energy use is a critical component of carbon-emissions reduction, and WEF places a strong emphasis on collaborating with venues that demonstrate excellent energy management practices. The Morial Convention Center has implemented significant upgrades to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption. This resulted in a reduction in energy consumption by 61% over 2023.
Sustainable Procurement
WEF’s sustainable procurement initiatives focused on responsible sourcing and necessity. We collaborated with catering to promote sustainability, including replacing plastic water bottles with an aluminum option and replacing plastic takeout containers with compostable options.
Contributions to the Local Community
In 2024, WEF expanded its efforts to foster community engagement while delivering environmental, social, and economic benefits. In addition to the Community Service Project and Waterpalooza, conference participants assembled 3,000 laundry kits for the Ronald McDonald House Charities and 2,000 STEM kits for Community Works of Louisiana.
