WEF InFLOW (Introducing Future Leaders to Opportunities in Water) is a program to enhance diversity and inclusion in the water workforce. Learn about InFLOW and how you can participate and meet the 2022 InFLOW Scholars at WEFTEC.

The WEF InFLOW program is designed to introduce scholars to opportunities in the water sector and help them foster a network with the water community.

This scholarship opportunity engages participants in WEF programs and events to solidify their interest in working in the water sector and increase their probability of employment and long-term success working in water.

InFLOW consists of two tracks. STEMpath identifies scholars enrolled in undergraduate/graduate degree programs from historically underrepresented ethnic and racial groups. CareerTech partners with community-based organizations to expose scholars in job readiness programs to various rewarding career possibilities in water quality.

WEFTEC provides a fantastic opportunity for InFLOW scholars to grow, network, and expand. Scholars participate in multiple events at WEFTEC and are excited and eager to network and meet other water professionals and exhibitors.

If you spot an InFLOW scholar at WEFTEC, introduce yourself. To learn more about InFLOW, visit www.wef.org/inflow.

An InFLOW Scholar Shares Her Story

Alma Rocha.PNGI grew up in the “El Valle” region in the southern part of Texas. During InFLOW, I learned about the Global Water Crisis and environmental injustices in small communities like mine. Learning about these injustices made me think differently and that I could impact the water sector as an engineer. As an InFLOW scholar, I learned about water jobs that benefit people with a master's or Ph.D. such as professors, researchers, engineers, and city planners. My InFLOW experience along with my research inspired me to pursue a Ph.D. in environmental engineering.

For many InFLOW scholars, WEFTEC is their first-ever professional conference, and it is utterly amazing that WEF, with its sponsors, can provide financial resources and effective networking for InFLOW scholars to gain the most from the conference.

Overall, the InFLOW program inspired me to apply for opportunities outside my comfort zone. InFLOW motivated me, and I now have plans to be a professor one day. I know that I would like to be a part of creating programs that are innovative and serve to diversify the water industry.
