W18 Navigating the Water Sector's Path to Net Zero

If you are a water resource recovery facility or support these institutions and are interested in learning practical strategies toward achieving carbon neutrality, this workshop is for you. Discussions and hands-on activities will focus on the myriad steps necessary to put your utility on a path toward net zero. Multiple case studies will be provided to guide decision-making and help develop a suite of actions tailored to each utility's unique greenhouse gas reduction journey.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • State a strong business case for actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the absence of regulatory drivers.
  • Distinguish between direct and indirect sources of GHG emissions across wastewater conveyance and facility operations to formulate, prioritize, and troubleshoot reduction strategies.
  • Identify the sources and sinks of GHG emissions across wastewater conveyance, treatment train recovered product end use, as well as give examples of mitigation actions that offer quick wins and cost savings.
