W16 Learning to Communicate: Connecting with Audiences and Telling Your Story

1:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Expert water communicators will lead this workshop about how to effectively connect with audiences through storytelling. Participants will learn best practices directly from subject matter experts through interactive activities. Throughout the session, participants will prepare presentation materials using the lessons and takeaways from the speakers to improve their skills. This workshop is recommended for anyone looking to improve their skills in preparing technical presentations and delivering them to diverse audiences.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • Identify and avoid common pitfalls typically encountered when speaking and delivering presentations.
  • Improve skills in delivering a message and story through presentations.
  • Apply fundamental principles and best practices of effective presentation creation and design.
  • Practice the method for crafting a compelling story to connect with different audiences and stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with team members possessing different skills and experiences.
  • Develop personal persona profiles that help with connection and engagement with unfamiliar and diverse audiences.
