The WEF Community Service Project, organized by the WEF Students & Young Professionals Committee (SYPC), offers WEFTEC attendees the opportunity to give back to New Orleans. This summer, the City of New Orleans is implementing multiple green infrastructure and sustainability projects on the City Hall grounds to solve issues and provide an education resource to the community. The 9th annual WEF Community Service Project will help propel this project forward by constructing bioretention cells and bioswales to capture and filter stormwater runoff to alleviate flooding and improve water quality.
Registration for the service project is free and open to all WEFTEC attendees and their guests. All volunteers will receive transportation to and from the site, a t-shirt, lunch, and a WEF Community Service Project ribbon for your WEFTEC badge. We look to have over 100 volunteers help make a positive impact on the local water environment of New Orleans!
As part of WEF's mission to increase public awareness on water related subjects, the SYPC will also be organizing a Water Palooza event on Friday, Sept 23. This event brings together water conscious organizations and companies to educate school age children in the community about the value of water through hands-on and demonstrative activities.
Funding for the service project is provided entirely by donations - both monetary and material donations are welcomed. You are welcome to contact Michael Quamme to donate materials and Caroline Pakenham for monetary donations.
Join WEF in committing to civic outreach and sustainability, and ultimately making an immediate impact on our host city, New Orleans!
