As an annual WEFTEC event, Young Professionals come together to identify a community service project that not only gives back to the local community, but also provides educational information on the importance for citizens to be well informed on how to protect the water environment. Help make a difference, leave a positive impact on the local environment, and bring educational awareness as to how this project will impact the community. The 2010 Project, will engage WEFTEC attendee support in constructing and planting a low-impact infrastructure bioswale(s) in the lower 9th ward of New Orleans. The day begins with a brief tour of the Katrina impacted lower 9th ward area including visits to the Sewage & Water Board's wetlands planting project. In addition, a sustainable educational fair will be held on the adjacent Mississippi levee providing topics on Sustainable Neighborhood Development, Living with Water, and Electric Power Generation using Microturbines in the Mississippi River and much more.
