"Wading for Wetlands"
8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Registration required
WEF’s Student and Young Professionals Committee (SYPC) will host a community service project to "Replant, Restore, and Revitalize" the wetlands at the Orange County Utilities Northwest Water Reclamation Facility. An anticipated group of 100 will spend the day harvesting plants from an established part of the wetlands and replanting them in other areas. The wetlands system consists of six cells and includes approximately 75 acres of land. The cells were populated with native pants. The students and young professionals will learn about the wetlands treatment system and how wetlands are used to further remove nutrients from the reclaimed water prior to recharging the sensitive aquifer system by participating in this hands environmental project.
The facility is located about 30 minutes from the convention center. Complimentary bus transportation will be provided and is included on the WEFTEC registration form. As we anticipate a large turnout, we have offered a morning and afternoon session so that everyone can have an opportunity to get invovled.
How to REGISTER - MUST Reserve your seat on the bus in advance
There is no cost to the attendee for the bus transportation however you must have indicated your attendance of this event on your WEFTEC registration form. If you did not, please contact CSI 1.877.303.0724 and ask them to amend your registration to include the SYPC Community Ourtreach Project located under section 4 referencing Ticketed Events and select "H" for the morning session or "I" for the afternoon session or select both options should you want to stay the whole day.
Morning Session - Bus leaves at 8:00 from the Converntion Center and will arrive back by Noon
Afternoon Session - Bus leaves at Noon from the Convention Center and will arrive back by 3:30 pm
Lunch will be provided for those that stay all day. Contact WEF Staff Dianne Crilley dcrilley@wef.org if you have questions.

Member Associations proudly select their best Student Chapter Design Team to participate in this annual WEFTEC Design Competition. Each design team will receive a recognition plaque / each team member will receive a certificate. Through sponsorships, award money will be presented to the 1st and 2nd place winners from the Wastewater Design and Environmental Design competitions.
New for 2009 - Two competitions will be held at WEFTEC.09, a Wastewater Design competition that includes a traditional wastewater design project (hydraulic, capacity design, upgrades to existing systems, biosolids handling etc...) and an Environmental Design competition that includes the current contemporary engineering topics (sustainability, water reuse, wetland construction, etc...). Through sponsorship of this event, award money will be presented to the top 1st and 2nd place winning teams.
